ParticipantI used NVivo’s Ncapture tool to capture tweets based on hashtags (as part of larger digital ethnography) and now I’m having trouble manually importing the excel worksheet into NodeXL. Is there any sort of guide you can point me to on how to do this correctly? I keep getting an error message and I’m not sure if it’s because I’m making a mistake on the import or has something to do with my data. The error message I’m getting is below– Thanks!

ParticipantI’m having trouble with downloading Twitter networks. Every time I go to authorize my Twitter account, NodeXL crashes/closes.

ParticipantI’m not having any luck with NodeXL Pro > Import > From Twitter user’s network …
First try gives error “The username <xxx> is too long. Twitter usernames can’t be longer than 15 characters.” (Which isn’t true.)
Second try, providing only my own twitter username, which is less than 15 characters, gives error: “Either there are no such users, or they have all protected their accounts.” (Also not true.)
Any suggestions? Thanks.

KeymasterNodeXL is adapting to the changes in the Facebook API.
The latest version of NodeXL Pro was updated to work with the previous Facebook API update. In that release we added a Facebook Fan Page importer for users who are the Administrator of their Page. This importer continues to deliver the same data as previous. However, if you are not the Admin of a page, you must use the non-Admin importer which no longer delivers the names of the authors of comments, any reaction details, or time stamps. The resulting data is useful for content analysis but lacks much in the way of “network” data since the data needed to create meaningful edges have been removed.
More recently, the Facebook API has changed again and the “Search” feature that allowed users to discover Facebook Fan Pages of interest has been removed.
Facebook has deprecated the Search API as of 4 of April
https://developers.facebook.com/…/facebook-api-platform-pr…/The bad news is that you may no longer “Search” for a Page using the NodeXL Pro Facebook Fan Page Importer.
The good news is that you may perform this search in a web browser and transfer each Page ID# to the search box to select your desired page.
More good news! There is now a new importer for the connections between Facebook Fan Pages.

ParticipantHello Marc!
I am a postgraduate researcher from the University of Melbourne studying sexual violence and social media. I was planning on using Nodexl to collect a network of users responding to a particular incident in 2017. Unfortunately, Nodexl cannot assess this effectively as it is limited by the public search API. Twitter has recently released a number of premium search APIs which provide full-archive access to historical Twitter data – which I have applied for and been granted access to. Is there any way to configure nodexl to run with a personal API?
I apologize sincerely if I am asking for something that isn’t possible – I’m new to this so my understanding of how all this stuff works relies pretty heavily on intuition!
Many many thanks

ParticipantHi,
I am trying to access a public page on Facebook but it is not showing any search results.
I tried using the Page ID as suggested “search in a web browser and transfer each Page ID# to the search box to select your desired page.” – but it says no search result.I am getting an error:
——–
The network couldn’t be obtained. Details:
[KeyNotFoundException]: The given key was not present in the dictionary.
——–Could you please guide me how to import data from an FB group page.
Thanks in Advance.

ParticipantI’m trying to use the “Import from Facebook Fan Page Admin Network” function and after I log in I then click on “Browse My Pages…” and the dropdown merely displays the slowly spinning blue loading circle. I get nowhere from here. I’ve enabled compatibility mode in general > options to see if that fixes anything. I’m using Windows 10 Pro and Office 365. Any help on this would be appreciated, the work is fairly time sensitive.

ParticipantHi, Marc!
I’m trying to import data from a Facebook Page from a year ago, but can’t seem to get a response from NodeXL. Is there a limit as to the date you can import a data?
Thanks and regards,
Fatima

ParticipantHi!
I am doing a research about certain media Facebook fan page posts and I was trying to import data of Facebook posts from a year ago. However, either I don’t get a response from NodeXL or I get a “Network is empty” error message. Is there a limit as to the date of posts I can import? I have searched the Facebook pages and the posts I am trying to analyze are still available in those pages.
Thanks and regards,
Fatima

ParticipantHi Marc,
Do you know if there’s any way tob ypass Twitter rate limits with NodeXL’s data importers? I understand you can buy data from services like Crimson Hexagon or Radian6, but I’ve used NodeXL’s importers for some time (never occurred to me to request to be whitelisted) and I’d like to see if there’s any method by which I could continue using them without Twitter’s rate limits. I’ve thought that perhaps buying Twitter Premium API access would be a solution. But I don’t know if NodeXL’s data importers would work without any tinkering. Are there any plans to integrate access to Twitter Premium APIs into NodeXL in the future?
Thanks!

KeymasterHello!
Thank you for the interest in NodeXL!
We do not enable bypassing API restrictions.
For many years now, the Twitter “Whitelisting” is no longer active. All public users of the API are equal.
Commercial data sources do have access to deeper data and can deliver longer periods of data in one query.
We believe that any account that has Twitter Premium that is accessed through NodeXL, should receive the higher rate limits associated with a Premium account.
Regards,
Marc
